Tri-M Music Honors Society
Membership in Tri-M Music Honors society is considered one of the highest honors that a music can receive. Being a member of Tri-M signifies and recognizes the hard work and contribution of students who are actively PARTICIPATING and contributing to music at the highest level. Students who are members of Tri-M are recognized through the Tri-M, certificate of acceptance, and they given honor cords to wear upon graduation from Newnan high school.
Tri-M, or Modern Music Masters, is the only music honor society for junior high and high school students in the nation. As part of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), Tri-M serves to recognize students who excel both academically and musically. Tri-M provides students with leadership opportunities to make a difference in their community through music-based service projects.
Tri-M chapters have been chartered in public, private and parochial schools in all 50 states and in countries around the world, including Canada, Chile, China, Egypt, the United Kingdom and many more. Honorary Tri-M members include Arthur Fiedler, Howard Hanson, Bobby McFerrin, Sir Georg Solti, Shinichi Suzuki, Fred Waring and Meredith Wilson.
Membership in Tri-M is by invitation only. To be considered for membership into Tri-M a student must meet the following criteria:
Letter twice in band.
Continue to be enrolled in both the fall and spring semesters of a band class through the end of your senior year.
No office referrals and no suspensions.
Attend 2 director approved performances in which the student is not participating.
No unexcused absence from a rehearsal or performance.
Complete 4 service hours.
Band Account in good standing.
Must receive an invitation to join Tri-M from society sponsor.
Upon acceptance to Tri-M. There is a 1 time $30.00 fee which is used to cover the materials that a member will receive.
To receive honor cords to wear at graduation:
You must meet the requirements to letter your senior year, this includes being in a band class for the fall and spring semesters.
Your band account must be current as of April 1st of the year in which you will graduate.
Your service hours must be completed by April 1 of the year in which you will graduate.
All other requirements of regular membership must be met up until the day of graduation.
